SideDoor (100 E Ontario St)

SideDoor

Opening tonight in River North, this American-style gastropub is offering complimentary bites and libations to all guests this evening between 5-7PM for their Grand Opening. While this might not be the norm every evening at SideDoor, it will no doubt become your go-to place for a cozy drink. This casual neighborhood retreat has a personality all its own; cozy, comfortable lounge seating, subdued lighting and the sounds of classic American jazz, blues and rock create a warm, intimate ambience ideal for lingering over drinks while sharing great food and conversation.

Old Town Social (455 W. North Ave.)

Housemade charcuterie is best enjoyed in close proximity to a roaring fire. Old Town Social is as close as you can get without immersing yourself in a bonfire with a mouthful of salumi. The meaty Old Town bastion is a destination year-round for the impressive breadth of its in-house charcuterie program, complete with housemade hot dogs, but the space is especially endearing now that it's fireplace area is in full effect.

Scofflaw (3201 W. Armitage Ave.)

A gin-minded bar may not be the most obvious destination when on the prowl for cozy cocktail nooks, but Scofflaw meets muster with its lounge-y second room. Around the corner from the bar itself is a parlor right out of opulent Victorian dreams, complete with snug couches, chairs, and a toasty fireplace. It's the perfect setting in which to enjoy hot buttered rum, chowder, burgers, and other warming creations.

Allium (120 E. Delaware Pl.)

Nestled inside The Four Seasons, Allium feels like an enchanting respite from the cold in and of itself. Let alone the fact that the restaurant is pimped out with couches, sofas, and other well-appointed lounge gear befitting a Downton Abbey episode. Oh and there's also a fireplace to warm you up while you tuck into gooey Burrata, Brussels sprouts with maple butter, and Allium's housemade Chicago-style hot dog, a feat in encased meat.

Sable Kitchen & Bar (505 N. State St.)

The fireplace at Sable Kitchen & Bar may be electric, but it's no less comforting. Plus there is no risk of accidentally falling into it. The reliably roaring fireplace provides an ambient backdrop for Sable's roster of bites and sips. Get cozy with one of Sable's new hot cocktails, like the Scotch- and maple-laced Bear Medicine, and pair it with some curry-spiced pan-seared scallops, soft pretzels with smoked cheddar dip, and truffle butter burgers. And there's lots more where those came from.
