Just a day after Thanksgiving, and already it's that time of year again, and nothing puts you in the holiday mood like seeing some Christmas lights with friends, family, loved ones, or a lion. Yes, a lion. ZooLights presented by Lincoln Park Zoo are back again for the holiday season, opening tonight! Whether you're with your friends, family, or on a date, The Lincoln Park Zoo Lights have something to offer everyone.
Bring your skates to slide, spin, twirl, and jump across the ice skating rink, or just hold onto the sides and gingerly walk across the ice. Either way, it's only $5 dollars to skate and $5 dollars to rent a pair of skates!
If it's a bit too cold outside, stop inside Café Brauer and warm up with some beer, wine, and cocktails. For guests not of the legal drinking age, be sure to pick up a cup of hot cocoa at various stands throughout the zoo.
As Buddy the Elf proudly proclaimed in Elf, "Santa! I know him, I know him!" Make sure you swing by the Kovler Lion House to have you picture taken with Santa and you can get to know him too! Professional photos will be available to purchase right in the Lion House.
The Lincoln Park Zoo does a great job year after year hiring professional ice carvers. Sit in wonder as you try to decipher the animal they are carving and just how they do it. This is a must see for all ages.
Visit the Helen Brach Primate House during your visit to make some Holiday Crafts. This is a great place for kids to monkey around and use their creative talents to make and bring home for a souvenir that will last, well let's be honest, about two weeks.
For only $2.75, take a ride on the AT&T Endangered Species Carousel. I feel I should note that no endangered species are harmed riding the carousel. So enjoy a ride on your favorite animal.
The Wild Things Gift Shop stays open all year, so if you need a get in some last minute Christmas shopping during your visit, dip in and see if they have anything for your wildiest of friends and family.
And finally, be sure to see all the lights - they're hard to miss! The ZooLights are extremely well done each and every year. Walk through the zoo and see the hundreds of trees wrapped from trunk to tree branch in colorful lights. Watch in amazement as the trees dance and sparkle to the sounds of Christmas music and give you some holiday cheer. Besides the trees, there are countless other Christmas lights in the shapes of your favorite wild animals. Price of admission? Free! So whether you're bringing the whole family, trying to impress a date or just there to enjoy the lights, be sure to take in some Zoo Lights and get in the holiday mood this season.
