Fall is my favorite season in Chicago: the brillant colors, the outstanding local harvest of apples and pumpkins, and the whirlwind of the new cultural season make me appreciate the distinct seasons of the Midwest. Here are our family's picks for must-do fall fun!

7. Lincoln Park

Savor the fall colors with a walk in one of Chicago's lovely parks. Lincoln Park is a must-visit, with its winding paths, zoo, and even a nature museum. Stop for lunch at the seasonally inspired North Pond Restaurant.

6. Visit the Farmer's Market

Gather some fall harvest goodies at a city Farmer's Market: apples, apple cider, apple pie, squash, pumpkins - make a picnic lunch of it! The Green City Market and Logan Square Farmers Market are our faves.

5. A Haunted House

Get your pants scared off at a haunted house. The 13 Terrors on the Lake is the best in the city, and the fog rolling in on little cat feet from Lake Michigan adds to the spooky factor.

4. Pumpkin Picking

Put in a day of work on the farm at Lincoln Park Zoo's Harvest Days at the Farm-in-the-Zooon Saturday, October 13 & Sunday, October 14. Pick a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, make fall themed crafts, visit with the animals and more.

3. The 57th Street Children's Book Fair

Celebrate reading at the annual 57th Street Children's Book Fair in Hyde Park on Sunday, October 7th, from 1 - 6. All of your favorite children's book characters will be on hand for a festive parade and meet-and-greets. You're sure to bring home a stack of good reads to get you through the long winter!

2. Take a Ghost Tour

Visit with the windy city's ghosts and ghouls on a Chicago Ghost Tour.

1. Check Out an Exhibit

Check out the newest exhibits for fall at our world-class museums. We're especially excited about the Wonderful Wizard of Oz exhibit at the Kohl's Children's Museum and the upcoming Peanut's exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry!
