Donut Fest

As evidenced by the incessant queues outside doughnut shops and how doughnuts pop up on menus faster than Whack-A-Moles, Chicago is clearly having a love affair with doughnuts. To celebrate this deep-fried fling, Chicago is ready to welcome its inaugural Donut Fest on January 26.

The only way to make doughnuts more delicious is by serving them up with a bit of chummy competition. In order to smartly maximize the city's torrid obsession with all things fried dough, Donut Fest brings together 15 doughnuts from 15 of Chicago's top doughnut-slingers. From yeast-risen doughnuts to cake-y treats, from crullers to fritters, all walks of doughnut life are represented at this imminent doughnut smack-down.

Participants include Glazed & Infused, Endgrain, Chop Shop, Beavers Coffee + Donuts, West Town Bakery, Fritz Pastry, Firecakes, City Dough, Longman & Eagle, Doughnut Vault, Scafuri Bakery, Reuter's Bakery, Swedish Bakery, Gurnee Donuts, and Berrista, the forthcoming miracle berry-focused coffee and pastry shop from Moto's Homaro Cantu. Of course, you can't have doughnuts without coffee, which comes courtesy of Bow Truss, Ipsento, Dark Matter, Julius Meinl, and HalfWit Coffee Roasters.

Doughtnut VAultThe event is the brainchild of dual doughnut aficionados Alyssa Erickson and Rebecca Skoch, who have teamed up to host the doughnut event of the year at 1st Ward within Chop Shop. The best part is that money raised for the event is going toward's Un86'd, a local charity designed to provide financial aid for restaurant industry professionals in medical need.

Bingeing on doughnuts has never felt so altruistic. Click here for more information on this binge-worthy festival.
