If you've been on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or the streets of Austin, Texas, in the past week then you know that the annual music, film and technology festival titan South By Southwest is back. And if you're one of the many folks lamenting the fact that you won't be making it to Austin, like this writer, take solace in the fact that in just a few weeks, Chicago will play host to a similar event of its own: the Chicago International Movie and Film Festival.
The Chicago International Movie and Film Festival (CIMM Fest) returns for its sixth year May 1st through the 4th. This sprawling celebration showcases the inseparable ties between the music and film industries and the art that they produce together. In the past, CIMM Fest has exposed attendees to dozens upon dozens of national and local bands, musically inspired feature films, music video debuts and enticing industry panels.
In 2014, CIMM Fest aims to be bigger than ever, bringing more than 70 films, 50 bands and 99 events to Chicago over the four-day period. The events will be housed at a number of venues in Wicker Park and Logan Square, Chicago neighborhoods that have long been considered breeding grounds for creative minds. CIMMCon, an exposition that brings together industry leaders and innovators, will return following its debut in 2013.
The festival will announce its programming in the coming weeks and if there's anything you should expect, it's diversity. CIMM Fest aims to highlight media from all countries, cultures and classes.
