From March 9 - 18, music, film and technology lovers will flock to Austin, TX, for the annual festival and conference, South By Southwest.
Chicago will be well represented during this festival as many of the city's musicians flock to the heart of Texas.
Only a few acts get to perform at official SXSW showcases, so it's great that Chicago will get to leave its mark. Rhythm and soul outfit JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, jazzy hip-hop group Kids These Days, pop rockers Gold Motel and melodic indie rockers Maps & Atlases are just a few of the Chicago acts officially slated to perform.
Meanwhile, quite a few other local bands are heading south with sights set on rocking the underground circuit. Fiery garage rockers White Mystery are playing nine unofficial shows in Austin over a four-day span.
Many Chicago record labels also participating in SXSW by hosting showcases featuring local talent.
The garage rock-leaning label HoZac Records is planning a free, nine-band St. Patrick's Day celebration, while alt-county imprint Bloodshot Records welcome the aforementioned JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, roots rockers The Waco Brothers and more for their official showcase.
For those that can't make it to Texas, a few local venues are hosting SXSW send-off parties. The Hideout is holding their annual event send off party on Saturday, March 10, with Kids These Days headlining, and the Empty Bottle is hosting two days of noise and punk rock for their SXSW send-off event on Saturday, March 10, and Sunday March 11, which is also sponsored by local vinyl nirvana Permanent Records.
