No one needs reassurance or additional encomia to know that Chicago is everyone's kind of food town. From elaborate crudite to charming charcuterie, Chicago has you covered.Case in point, Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet will be returning this year to Millennium Park from September 25-27. Presented by Bon Appetit, this elaborate celebration brings together 150 restaurants and chefs for celebrity chef demos, wine and spirit tastings, and a number of new events.
Though many of the weekend's special events are sold out, tickets are still available for Sunday's Main Event, taking place from noon to 5 p.m. More than 190 of Chicago's finest restaurants and chefs, as well as hundreds of renowned vintners, spirit makers and premium breweries will be showcased for your enjoyment. They're expected to sell out very soon, though, so act fast!
Along with the two main days of tasting and discovery, you'll also want to consider attending one of the other fine events offered in conjunction with this set of celebrations.
First up is the Late Night Gourmet on Friday at The Underground, 56 W. Illinois St. This third annual event, hosted by CS Magazine, is the official Hamburger Hop after party, featuring cocktails, scrumptious late-night bites and live music. The party goes from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Next, get your tiki on at the "Punch Kings, Pigs n'Tiki" event, presented by COCHON 555, on September 25 at the Harris Theater Rooftop. Folks in attendance will have the opportunity to watch barkeeps whip up their own Tiki inspired punch bowls and then pair each drink with a different type of succulent pig roast. The event goes from 8-11 p.m.
Early bird gets the worm! Wake up early for the "Rise & Shine Gourmet" event from 8-11 a.m. on September 27 in Maggie Daley Park. Guests will get things started with a sunrise yoga class and then have the opportunity to have a brunch prepared by a number of local chefs, including Lula Cafe's Jason Hammel, Paula Haney of Hoosier Mama Pie Company, Matthias Merges of A10/Billy Sunday/Yusho, and others. Also, guests will receive a Rise & Shine Gourmet T-shirt, a yoga mat and a tote bag.
