One of fall's foremost food events in Chicago, the annual affair (pun intended, per the "cheating") is all about showcasing the local provisions of Green City Market, as well as the general farm-fresh message of Chicago's quintessential farmers market. Several of Chicago's top culinary and mixology talents are on deck to lend their support to what is formally dubbed "A (Mostly) Veggie Affair: Cheat on Meat or Go Whole Beast!"
As the name suggests, vegetables are one of the focal points of the walk around-style dining event. Most of the chefs in attendance are tasked with cooking vegetable dishes using Green City Market produce instead of meat. This year's roster of chefs includes Paul Virant of Perennial Virant and Vie, Aya Fukai of Sixteen, Lawrence Letrero of Sable Kitchen & Bar, Eric Mansavage of Farmhouse, Chris Davies of Homestead on the Roof and Nathan Sears of The Radler.
But that's not all. If you'd still like some meat, you can cheat on the vegetables and go whole beast with some whole-animal preparations by Jared Batson of The Nomad Food Company, Scott Manley of Table, Donkey & Stick and David Ochs of Maple & Ash.
Along with food, the veggie affair will feature cocktail creations courtesy of Freddie Sarkis from Broken Shaker, Will Duncan from Punch House, Riley Huddleston from I|O Godfrey and Billy Helmkamp from The Whistler. Beer and cider will be on hand via Moody Tongue and Virtue Cider.
VIP hour opens at 6 p.m. and general admission is 7-10 p.m., with proceeds from the $75 tickets benefitting Green City Market. Purchase yours here.
