Temperatures may be cooling but things are heating up for literary fans as Chicago continues hosting exciting events for the Shakespeare 400 Chicago festival. This groundbreaking celebration of 400 years of The Bard's literary legacy includes five international companies representing four continents who will interpret and re-imagine Shakespeare's works this month. Here are some September highlights not to miss:


Songs of Lear: September 15-18
Featuring From Poland: Song of the Goat
Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Navy Pier (800 E. Grand Avenue)

Poland's Song of The Goat presents a musical exploration of King Lear that blends gestures, words and music into captivating rhythms. This original work has garnered raves at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest for its originality.

Enamorarse De Un Incendio: September 22-24
Featuring From Mexico: Foro Shakespeare
Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Navy Pier (800 E. Grand Avenue)

Mexico City's Foro Shakespeare is noted for its social justice work and inventive productions. Working with acclaimed Chilean playwright Eduardo Pavez Goye, the company uses camera work and film projection to highlight love and relationships in Romeo and Juliet.


Creating Shakespeare: September 23-December 31
The Newberry (60 W. Walton Street)

This impressive exhibit includes over 100 artifacts manuscripts, books, music and art works to trace the ways that Shakespere's works have been reinterpreted over the centuries. Public programs with lectures and tours will also be featured with the exhibition.


Bon Appetit Presents Chicago Gourmet Grand Cru: September 24-25
The Harris Theater Rooftop (205 E. Randolph Street)

An exceptional culinary experience is the focus for this event which features Shakespeare- inspired dishes from participating Culinary Complete Works chefs, along with innovative performances of some of Shakespeare's most famous scenes.


Piya Behrupiya – Twelfth Night:  September 27 and 29
Featuring From India: Company Theatre Mumbai
Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Navy Pier (800 E. Grand Avenue)

Company Theatre Mumbai presents an award-winning, Hindi translation of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. The production will be performed in Hindi with projected English translations.
