Beer Brewing

Later this spring, Moody Tongue Brewmaster Jared Rouben will debut ‘culinary brewing,' an original approach to brewing that utilizes cooking methods alongside exceptional seasonal ingredients to produce sexy, clean, balanced beers in popular styles. Now is your chance to be one of the first to try it: the celebrated brewer will share a special look at culinary brewing starting today.

Whether you consider yourself a novice, a home cook or a master home brewer, "Brewing Like A Cook" is an educational series held at Element Collective's Ampersand "pop-up" concept. The series is designed to push the boundaries of beer, as Rouben (previously a mastermind at Goose Island) invites guests to learn how to build your palate by differentiating taste from flavor, understand the interconnectedness of beer and food, better match beer styles to exceptional ingredients and incorporate new culinary techniques.

During the class, the brewmaster will preview more about his innovative culinary brewing process, which he will debut at Moody Tongue in late spring. You'll also have the chance to work under the brewmaster's guidance to build your own culinary beers during the classes. (A fantasy you've had before, isn't it?)

Even if you can't make it today, you'll have a few more chances to get a glimpse into the artisan brewing techniques of Jared Rouben. Each class is unique and matches a showcased ingredient to a popular beer style:

March 8: 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Chocolate

March 22: 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Coffee

April 12: 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Peppers

April 19: 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Tea

Classes are $20. Please visit ampersandpopup.com to purchase tickets.
