I’ve been eager to get over to Beauty Bar (1444 West Chicago Ave) in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood after hearing nothing but rave reviews from friends. Martinis, manicures, hair dos and dancing...what’s not to like?! Plus the interior is like a swanky time capsule bringing you back to the 1960s. Sip your cocktail from a vintage dryer chair or dance the night away under the disco ball.
While this may seem strictly like a Girl's Night Out, Chicagoans are flocking to this retro hair “saloon” for the beats. Which isn’t a surprise given that Beauty Bar joined forces for its Chicago concept with the owner, Bruce Finkelman, and booking agent, Pete Toalson, from Chicago’s legendary Empty Bottle. These men know music.
Its famous $10 manicures and martinis may be a draw for the ladies (and men too!), but Beauty Bar is more about the music and art attracting crowds for its DJs, themed dance parties and SALONATHON nights supporting new, emerging and underground art in Chicago. It’s an “all are welcome” environment giving guests a canvas to express themselves.
And that we did! That night’s theme was “Hey Dude! Another 90s Party,” complete with 90s jams, hair styles, and costumes.
Stone wash jeans, leather vests and valley girl duds were encouraged. To add to the fun, guests posed for professional snaps at the live Photo Booth by Glitter Guts. Check out more of the night’s best pics here.
If you dig themed parties as much as I do, you’ll want to check out Beauty Bar’s Event Calendar for more details on any evening’s musical vibe, drink specials, special events and encouraged attire.
This Saturday is the “Slumber Party Massacre” so don your best sleepover fiascos and murderous attire for a chance to win “best costume” or “best couples costume” and enjoy a Jim Beam hosted bar from 9pm-10pm.
Whatever the occasion, Beauty Bar is sure to deliver on a fun night out. So get creative, throw your insecurities to the wind and soak in the beauty.
