Fashion is art. I think we are all at the point where we can say that now. If not, Google "Alexander McQueen" and you'll understand what I mean. Being both an art and fashion buff myself, it always brings a special kind of excitement when the worlds come together for doubly fabulous events. Renowned jewelry designer Shamila Jiwa is presenting a fine jewelry trunk show at the Art Institute Saturday April 27 and Sunday April 28. Chicagoans will be able to see her full line. Finally.

These kinds of events are even better when they involve one of my favorite new jewelry designers, Shamila Jiwa. Shamila, a spunky, sweet Canadian who credits hard work and a positive attitude as the means to success, is quickly becoming one of the hottest new jewelry designers in the country. We're lucky enough to get her in Chicago this weekend.

The designer specializes in gemstone jewelry that is equal part classic and exotic. Her pieces bring in elements from around the world, with special focus on Turkish, Indian, and Thai jewels, cuts, and settings.  Shamila, known for her beautiful gemstone stackable cocktail rings, will show off all of her stunning collection including unique Horseshoe rings, custom carved gemstones (the Blue Topaz earrings are guaranteed to be show stoppers), and layering necklaces that are equally delightful on their own.

Because of her work, Shamila received the Centurion Emerging Designer of the Year award in 2012. A commitment to fair trade, charitable donations, and use of only the highest quality materials make Shamila's jewelry the kind of accent pieces one feels great about wearing. Check out this incredible wearable art on or at the Art Institute in Chicago April 27 and 28 from 12 to 4 PM
