Located on North Clark Street in River North, the Aloft Chicago City Center is a dazzlingly recent addition to Chicago’s hotel landscape. It’s been open since 2013 and it’s been well received by folks across the hotel industry and from visitors coming into town for conferences, family gatherings and leisurely visits to wander around Michigan Avenue and beyond.
First-time visitors will want to check out the welcoming lobby, which features helpful personnel, newspapers, comfortable seats, and their Re: Fuel store in the lobby. The store is distinguished by its freshly made salads, drinks and sandwiches. It’s a conveniently located option, which also features the usual arrangement of sundry products.
As you travel up to your room, you’ll be in for a rare treat as well. Each of the luxuriously appointed rooms includes an ergonomic workstation, Bliss spa amenities, free bottled water, a mini-fridge and a king-sized plush platform bed. In many of the rooms on the upper floors, there are tremendous views stretching out over River North, which actually make for amazing people-watching. It’s also a perfect place to sit and watch the sunset from the privacy of your own room.
It’s also worth mentioning that the hotel is pet-friendly, and there’s no extra charge for bringing your companion along. Each pet will receive an Aloft Hotels–brand dog bed, an in-room water bowl and complimentary snacks.
As you won’t want to spend your entire time in the room, you can head on down to the W XYZ Bar within the Restaurant Beatrix in the lobby. After choosing from a variety of fruit-forward cocktails and tea-infused items, you’ll be ready for any night out after a tipple or two. And of course, you’ll want to make sure and secure a reservation at Beatrix for one of their signature meals.
This notable restaurant opened with the hotel and is under the helm of chef/partner John Chiakulus, who has over 35 years of working in the Chicago restaurant industry. Their meals place a premium on healthful ingredients and preparation, and they do a veritable cornucopia of dishes from breakfast all the way to late-night dinner. Stop by for brunch during your stay and start with a variety of their juices, which include apple and ginger snap and the elaborately baroque mango, orange and pineapple nectar. In terms of their brunch mains, I’d give a nod to the spicy chicken tinga and their delightful light and fluffy lemon pancakes — view the full menu online.
