The legendary Chicago comedy destination, The Second City, gets an entertaining dose of social and political commentary with the satirical revue, Afro-Futurism. Combining stand-up, sketch, music and performance, the production offers a multi-faceted view of the African-American perspective.
Hosted by the smoothly sarcastic Felonius Munk, a group of seven comedians and performers serve up laughs and insight into black experiences from the stance of Afro-futurism or black culture through the lens of science fiction.
The theme for each week changes and performers sing, dance and rap through issues that might be otherwise uncomfortable. It's a decidedly Millennial troupe, which delves into sex, race, tech and history from fresh angles. The show is eclectic and accessible for all backgrounds so don't miss it.
Second City e.t.c. Theater is located at 1608 N. Wells St. in the Old Town neighborhood. Shows begin at 8pm and tickets cost $10-20. Afro-Futurism has been extended and is on stage select dates throughout the summer:
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting June 7 through June 29
- Tuesdays through July 19
