Second City - Holiday Shows - Blog

Whether you tell 2012 "Good year" or "Good riddance!" New Year's Eve is a time for celebration. But if you don't want to sit at home to watch the ball drop or squeeze in a crowded club to hear the beat drop, it can be hard to figure out how to make the most of NYE. Luckily, Chicago's comedy theatres are ready to pop your cork this December 31.

The Second City's NYE Triple Threat

Working at The Second City, I often warn friends and family that prime time shows sell out weeks in advance. But nothing compares to the frenzy for NYE tickets. This year Second City has three shows ringing in the New Year with performances at 7pm and 10pm. All tickets come with a drink and the 10pm performances feature a countdown and champagne toast.

The Second City's Triple Threat:

The Second City's 100th Revue: Who Do We Think We Are - Second City Mainstage
We're All In This Room Together - Second City e.t.c. Theatre (Best Revue - 2012 Jeff Awards)
The Second City's Nut-Cracking Holiday Revue - UP Comedy Club

Hannibal Buress at Zanies

Hannibal Buress is the funniest stand-up comedian I have ever seen. I first saw him perform during Just for Laughs in 2011 and have been gleefully cheering his success. He's a writer for 30 Rock and a former writer from SNL. He was voted the funniest person in Chicago by Time Out Chicago.

Hannibal's on at 6:30pm, 8:30pm and 10:30pm on December 31 ONLY.

iO's Interactive New Year

With an open bar, game show motif and some of Chicago's top improvisers, you can't go wrong with iO's Interactive New Year in the iO Cabaret Theatre. Returning for a second year, the show features interactive games with the audience as well as improv, sketch comedy and a champagne toast. The performance starts at 10:30 on New Year's Eve.
