Texas Flag - Blog

South By Southwest has come to be spring's pinnacle event for music, tech and film. Held annually in Austin, Texas, attendees and artists flock to the festival every March from all over the globe. So what does all of this have to do with Chicago? A lot, actually. Thanks for asking.

With such a big emphasis on the music, nearly every major city in the U.S. is represented and Chicago's no exception. To help you navigate the scene and support our homegrown talent, we've spotlighted the local groups headed to Austin.

Chicago's has long been considered a "musical town" and SXSW is one of the fastest ways for our local bands to get nationally exposure. So, each year, a troupe of Chicago bands makes the journey to Texas and perform alongside some of the biggest names in the industry.

This year is no different and the roster of local bands playing Chicago is impressive. To celebrate and wish them well, the Hideout throws a "SXSW Sendoff Party" every year. This year it'll be on March 9 and many of the bands performing at the festival will also be hitting the Hideout's stage.

Topping the list (and headlining the show) is a duo that I feel like pops up on Chicago Like A Local enough that you could say we have a "crush" on them: The Hood Internet. The DJ/producer two-piece are a dance floor favorite.

Other highlights performing the Hideout prior to their embarkment include former Lollapolooza performers Empires and blues folk singers The Waco Brothers.

The Hideout's SXSW Send Off Party runs from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 9 and costs $10. The set list times are as follows:

2:30PM: Twin Peaks

3:30PM: Frontier

4:30PM: Empires

5:30PM: Judson Claiborne

6:30PM: The Congregation

7:30PM: Summer Girlfriends

8:30PM: Mahogany

9:30PM: The Waco Brothers

10:30PM: Stephen Paul Smoker

11:30PM: Outer Minds
