Fall means many things in Chicago: the rustle of leaves, a focus on fall harvests, and a new crop of college students. It's also time to celebrate the wide and wonderful world of culinary creation that exists at our doorstep and beyond.
We are fortunate to have Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet back again at Millennium Park for the seventh year and this fine fete stretches gloriously from September 27-28.
Interested in hearing Bon Appétit's Andrew Knowlton talk about food and drink? Oh, he'll be there. How about a conversation with Rohini Dey of Vermilion about the world of Indian cuisine and more? Yes, that's another fine option.
And the tastings? Well, you'll have a first-row seat as chefs such as Carla Hall, Stephanie Izard, Graham Elliot and Mindy Segal offer up demonstrations and samples of their exquisite wares throughout the weekend. This year, Chicago Gourmet will also have two new pavilions: BBQ Pavilion and World Street Foods. The World Street Foods pavilion will feature tastes from Red Butter, Klas Restaurant and Shokolad.
Guests will have the opportunity to taste and drink their way through Millennium Park's Great Lawn as part of the entire proceedings. With over 150 exhibitors, one can partake of chardonnay, charcuterie, and single-malts while strolling around. It promises to be a wonderful weekend and interested parties can book tickets in advance (highly recommended) here. Also, there's a considerable discount if you attend the entire weekend, so why not come both days?
As a reminder, Chicago Gourmet runs Saturday, September 27th from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you can't make these days, you might also consider stopping by their Hamburger Hop on September 26th or the Mod Mex and Mod Mix celebration of Mexican cuisine on September 13-14, hosted by Chicago's own Rick Bayless.
