Chicago Bike Week

Chicago Bike Week officially kicks off today! Whether you're an experienced cyclist or a beginner, there are plenty of contests, tours and pop-ups happening all week long. Here are some of the highlights.

Friday, June 13 through Friday, June 20

Active Transportation Alliance is hosting the Bike Commuter Challenge all week long, and offers discounts at more than 100 bike shops and businesses to participants. Check out BikeCommuterChallenge.org for more information.


Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15

11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Grant Park's Chicago Blues Festival will have a free bike valet system for cyclists all weekend long.

Saturday, June 14

6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Strip down for Chicago's 11th World Naked Bike Ride. While the meet-up location is still under wraps, you can find more information at ChicagoNakedRide.org. A little hesitant to bike in the buff? Check out the site for information on where to watch from the sidelines.


Monday, June 16

8:30 p.m. Join movie-goers at Millennium Park for a screening of the 1998 Wes Anderson film, Rushmore, about a high school student who gets around via his trusty bike.

Bike and Roll

Tuesday, June 17

8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Head to the Federal Plaza Farmers Market to shop at pop-ups featuring cycling gear and fashions from local designers.


Wednesday, June 18

6:30 p.m. Meet up at Buckingham Fountain for a free 2-hour tour of the Near North Side, led by Lee Diamond of Chicago Neighborhood Bike Tours. The ride is limited to 150 participants, so make sure to pre-register early.

Thursday, June 19

5:30 p.m. Head to Cloud Gate in Millennium Park to take part in a free spin class, led by an instructor and accompanied by a DJ. More than 200 bikes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.


Friday, June 20

7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Chicago Bike Week culminates at the Bike to Work Rally held at Daley Plaza. Come to commune with fellow cyclists, as well as to enjoy the live music, free breakfast and complimentary valet bike parking. Don't forget to nab a free t-shirt before you leave.
