Big Ten 10K Race

If you love the rush of pumping endorphins through your body as you run long distances in the great outdoors, Chicago will certainly keep you satisfied. Here are five upcoming runs in the city through November.

BTN Big10K/5K

July 25
$53 as of publication

Big Ten 10K Race
A lot of Big Ten alumni flock to Chicago after graduation in search of jobs and an adult lifestyle. Chicago is home to the Big Ten Network, so it makes a lot of sense for them to host a run for Big Ten alums to show their pride. Registrants get a shirt representing their school and a fun tailgate party where you can make friends with/declare your dominance over people from other Big Ten schools!

Chicago 10k

August 9
$55 through July 30, $60 through August 5

Running through the streets of Chicago is something every serious runner should have on their bucket list. The Chicago 10k allows you to do that, with a starting point at Grant Park. Goodie bags include a sweet "Finisher" shirt and medal so you can feel like a boss.

Oktoberfest 5k

September 17
$30 through August 15, $35-40 through race day

It's hard to find a run more fun than one that celebrates drinking when all is said and done. So in addition to the usual goodies you can expect from any run mentioned here (like a performance tech t-shirt), registration for this run also includes a beer mug and beverage at the official after party. Don't forget your lederhosen - dressing up is encouraged.

Ditka Dash 5k

October 3
$50 through August 27, $55 until the event sells out

Ditka Dash
You have to click through the link and check out the promotional pictures for the Ditka Dash, because they're hilarious. If a whole day of looking like Ditka, being surrounded by people that look like Ditka, sounds like your idea of a good time... then boy do I have the run for you. The Ditka Dash starts at Soldier Field and ends with a "Moustache Bash." Participants will be showered with plenty of great swag including a moustache, aviators, official race shirt, and food and drink at the afterparty.

Another option for October? You could run the Chicago Marathon.

Hot Chocolate 5/15k

November 8
$64 for 15k through August 16, $74-79 until registration closes

It's impossible to walk down the streets of Chicago in the colder months without spotting someone donning a Hot Chocolate run hoodie. Like the Oktoberfest 5k, the Hot Chocolate run rewards your fitness efforts at the finish line with some indulgences, in this case - hot chocolate, chocolate fondue, and more. The finisher "medal" is literally a chocolate bar. Where do I sign up?

There are so many fun runs going on the next few months, it's hard to choose where to focus your efforts. But with options as good as these, you can't go wrong!

What fun runs are you participating in this year?
