Fable-ous! by Lifeline Theatre

Chicago Theatre Week is the star of February. For a couple bucks more than a ticket to the movies, you can introduce your kids to the magic of live theater. From February 9 to 19, over 100 productions will offer discounted tickets for $15–30, with many offering further discounts. Here are three children's plays on our radar for Chicago Theatre Week 2017.

"NIGHT RUNNER"

The Theatre School of DePaul University presents Night Runner

Cora is an enslaved 12-year-old on a mission to find her missing brother. "Night Runner," a mythic yet dark figure helps her as she escapes to freedom and finds her inner strength. Recommended for ages 9 and up.

CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA FAMILY MATINEE: STRAUSS' "DON QUIXOTE"


It's never to early to introduce your children to the joys of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and "Don Quixote," the courageous, dream-filled knight, is a playful character to meet for both kids and adults alike. Be sure to arrive one hour early for FREE pre-concert activities in the Rotunda. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

"FABLE-OUS!"

Fable-ous! Lifeline Theatre

This "Aesop's Fables"–inspired play brings "The Tortoise and Hare" into the modern age: When Harrington T. Jordan, the fastest Hare of Lion County, loses to the slowest ever tortoise, not only are his endorsements and merchandising in jeopardy but also his legendary reputation. This world-premiere comedy promises plenty of high jinx and laughter. Recommended for kids 5 and up. Children under 2 are not permitted.
