Jazzin' at the Shedd

Summer in Chicago is all about enjoying the great outdoors! Picnics, patios and parks beckon as the city comes alive under the summer sun. Here are two unique, weekly outdoor events featuring live music at the Shedd Aquarium and Museum of Contemporary Art that you won't want to miss.

Jazzin' at the Shedd

On Wednesday, June 22, the world-class Shedd Aquarium's signature summer evening live music series, Jazzin' at the Shedd, will usher in a summer filled with weekly concerts and cocktails. Enjoy live jazz under the stars on Shedd's scenic lakeside terrace as a rotating group of musicians encourages guests to get up and dance to the beat. Take a break and explore the aquarium, which will be open during the event, including the Wild Reef, Abbott Oceanarium and the aquarium's latest special exhibit, Amphibians.

This year, in celebration of Jazzin's 22nd anniversary season, the Shedd has partnered with Shoreline Sightseeing to offer an evening fireworks cruise. After an evening of jazz you'll hop aboard the Shoreline's Classic Lake Tour for a front-row view of the Navy Pier fireworks display. Cruises will be available on all Jazzin' dates from June through August.

Also on tap this year, the Jazzin' science pub series, hosted on select dates, gives guests the chance to meet a Shedd researcher and learn about his or her work: before you head out to the Shedd, check for updates to the science pub speaker schedule so you can come prepared with all your burning marine questions.

Jazzin' at the Shedd is held every Wednesday, June 22 through September 14 at 5 - 10 p.m., at the Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago. Tickets are $18 for online advance tickets; $20 at the door.

Tuesdays at the Terrace

Offered every Tuesday throughout the summer from June to September, the Museum of Contemporary Art presents Tuesdays on the Terrace — an annual summer performance series highlighting artists from Chicago's internationally renowned jazz community. Hosted on the museum's gorgeous John Kern Terrace Garden (or in the MCA Café in the case of rain), this is a summer music series you won't want to miss.

Indulge in the outstanding buffet for $27 per person, which features a changing menu of themed dishes all using fresh, locally grown produce from the SOAR Farmers Market, or just bring a blanket of your very own and relax on the lawn. Cold beverages, wine, seasonal cocktails and lite bites will also be available for purchase from the bar in the sculpture garden (outside food and beverages are not allowed).
