Unique perspectives on the city from the people who live here.

Author: Mike Habschmidt

Although Mike Habschmidt was born and raised (literally) across the street of the city limits, we'll give him a pass and say he was born and raised in Chicago. With 23 years of experience in this wonderful city, Mike has explored the ins-and-outs of Chicago's sports, dining, and entertainment, becoming a bit of a renaissance man. A graduate of DePaul University and The iO Theater, Mike has been able to stay put in the city his whole life. Maybe he should get out sometime. Well, until then, enjoy his unique perspectives on Chicago!

The Blues Brothers instantly became a special piece of cinema and Chicago history from the moment it hit the silver screen in 1980. Even today, it's not unusual to go to a Chicago sporting event and see two men wearing the jet black suits, fedoras, and wayfarer sunglasses combo that made John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd instant icons. Every Halloween, I see at least five sets of Jake and Elwood ringing doorbells and asking for candy.

Chicago is filled with wonderful attractions and friendly people, but we Chicagoans rarely dig into our dark, eerie history that has left some of the most popular spots in the city haunted. What better time to revisit the supernatural side of the city than Halloween! In part one of two, get ready to be spooked by Chicago's haunted history. Suspend your disbelief as I take you to some of Chicago's gravest spots, and see if you have the courage to brave them yourself this Halloween, muh-ha-ha!!!

"How can I possibly be expected to handle school on a day like this?"

We've all been there, even if we're not Ferris Bueller. After your mornings stretch, you look outside at the shining sun, soft breeze, and then wonder, "How can anyone expect me to handle work on a day like this?" So take the day off! While you're at it, follow in Ferris Bueller's footsteps too as I take you through the film locations that made Ferris Bueller's Day Off such a wonderful adventure (but make sure Ed Rooney isn't on your tail).
