With so many free things to do this month, there's a lot to be grateful for this November! As the holiday season officially begins, there's a long list of things that will become full: tummies, parks, and ice skating rinks are among them, but nothing is more full than Chicago's social calendar! 

"Saturday Night Live: The Experience" opens on October 21 at the Museum of Broadcast Communications. The 12,000-square-foot installment takes you on a journey behind the scenes of the late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show that continues to be an American staple as it enters its 43rd season.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) celebrates its 50th year with the theme “Experience today what people will be talking about tomorrow.” The MCA will be offering an exciting series of exhibitions, programs, events, and the unveiling of the museum building’s newest redesign.

With fall foliage and the cool breeze comes the spookiest month of the year—October! Besides Halloween festivities, Chicagoans have several things to look forward to, including fall festivals, book expos, art walks and food fairs. Movie fans won't run out of things to watch with several free screenings and the International Film Festival coming up, while history buffs will enjoy free admission to several of Chicago’s best landmarks. Without further ado, here are the top 10 free things to do in Chicago this October.

Why are most of a city’s most beautiful spaces not granted public access? Even those that do might limit admission with entrance fees, while others are completely closed off to the public. Wouldn't it be nice to see what lies behind the closed doors of some of Chicago’s most emblematic buildings?

Thanks to the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), once a year, the public is invited to explore the inside of usually locked up buildings—completely free of charge.

When you're having too much fun on a night out, the last thing you want to do is head home. Fortunately, there are a number of bars in Chicago that have been granted late-night liquor licenses so that they can serve alcohol ‘til well after the DJ’s last call.

The following late-night bars are open til 4am on weekdays, and 5am during the weekends.
