Deep-Dish Pizza Alternatives in Chicago

Tuesday, May 30, 2017 4:00 PM by Amy Bizzarri

Chicago-style deep-dish pizza is more a decadent pie than a plain old pizza. It's the grand pooh-ba of pizza and a beloved, decadent Chicago icon. Yet some local pizzerias forgo the deep dish for still delicious yet more unique takes on the round Italian classic. Here are five mouthwatering alternatives to the ubiquitous deep dish, and the Chicago pizzerias that serve them up.

Ready for a Chicago weekend full of eating, drinking and bicycling? Well maybe not all in a row! There's a bunch of things to do in Chicago this weekend, from biking down a car-less Lake Shore Drive to Memorial Day madness at several weekend parties and the annual Memorial Day Parade. Jurassic World dinosaurs take over The Field Museum, and once more Navy Pier is the place to be with the kick off to summer meaning FREE fireworks on the lake. Whether you're ready to jam to cover bands, get down with a House music party, catch local artists from a lakefront stage — or all of the above — Chicago is the place to be. It's time to make weekend plans!

Monday, May 15, 2017 12:00 AM by Liz Garibay

Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 18–25) always offers an array of delicious opportunities for thirsty Chicagoans, and this year's schedule is no different. Here is a little intro to the events celebrating local Chicago and Illinois breweries, and some of my top picks for the 2017 #CCBW line-up. See you there!

94 stories above the city of Chicago, at the tippy top of the iconic John Hancock building, the 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck offers a soaring bird's-eye view of the city. On a sunny day, vast Lake Michigan sparkles far below; at night, the city grid glows amber for miles upon miles. While a visit to this 360-degree is a must-do for every visitor to Chicago, a new series of fun activities—from yoga to painting workshops—makes a visit even more worthwhile.

Chicago's surprising fashion history is on elegant display at Chicago History Museum's landmark "Making Mainbocher" exhibit. Heralded by Vogue magazine as "the most important American designer that you've never heard of," Mainbocher — and his significant fashion influence — is finally receiving a much-deserved spotlight.
