Lincoln Park Zoo Chicago

Spring is in the air and Chicago is in bloom! One of the best places to connect with nature and enjoy the gorgeous weather is at the Lincoln Park Zoo, our (free!) zoo, located along the lakefront in Chicago's North Side Lincoln Park neighborhood. This spring and summer, the zoo calendar has many amazing opportunities to get up close and personal with the animals while also enjoying craft beers, or striking a yoga pose. Here are six seasonal adventures waiting to be experienced at Chicago's beautiful Lincoln Park Zoo.

Great Migration
Warmer weather in Chicago means more events and activities to enjoy and this weekend is bursting with cool things to check out. Organize your plans now so you don't miss any of these offerings. Here are our picks for the rest of the week, from a history-filled exhibit, to a book/pop culture mashup, to an indie-cool craft market.

Manifest Urban Arts Festival

If you're looking for something exciting and fun to do this Friday in Chicago, the downtown Loop has just the thing. Or three! Friday, May 13 marks the 16th annual Manifest Urban Arts Festival presented by Columbia College. It's one of the most exciting college events in the country, and is the longest-run student art festivals in Chicago. On top of that is the massive mural fest Big Walls and alley party ACTIVATE.

Al fresco dining is a big deal here in Chicago, but not all patios are equally destination-worthy. While rooftop bars, lavish terraces and consistent hot spots like Big Star and Piccolo Sogno draw hordes, Chicago is filled with wonderful outdoor nooks worthy of your attention. From a tranquil sushi oasis to a tree-lined bistro, these are Chicago's most underrated patio gems.

Porchlight Music Theatre presents Dreamgirls

Classic musicals supply lots of fun for theater fans; you can sing along, root for the star and laugh at the bad guys that are always outsmarted. The one sticking point with a beloved musical is that the singing must live up to or surpass the original. Otherwise, what's the point? You can just stay home and listen to the soundtrack. Well, the performers in Porchlight's Dreamgirls make sure that their show outdoes any recording of the high energy play.

Chicago Kids and Kites Festival

Every spring, kids in Chicago step out into the sunshine and harness the wind of our fair windy city at the Kids & Kites Festival, an annual tradition established by our former mayor and kite enthusiast, Richard M. Daley. This uniquely Chicago-style event is a colorful way to enjoy a spring day on the lakefront with your favorite kids. Here's our guide to the 18th annual Kids and Kites Festival, which takes place on Saturday, May 7 from 10am to 4pm at Montrose Harbor on Cricket Hill.
