Chicago Like a Local Blog

Unique perspectives on the city from the people who live here.

Posts from April 2014

Like an adult in a beer store, I awed at the dust-free environment that glistened with what seemed like miles and miles of gleaming pipes, palettes of glorious kegs, an endless sight of beautiful hardware and, maybe the best part, the sweet, sweet stench of beer being made. And what a beautiful sight it was.  Join me in my exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Chicago's newest beer mecca. Welcome to Lagunitas Chicago

It is almost upon us. And by almost, we mean still a little more than two months away, but nonetheless we are already salivating over this year's musical line up. AWOLNATION, Janelle Monáe, Nickel Creek, Jeff Tweedy and Aloe Blacc are just some of the performers that will be headlining the 34th Annual Taste of Chicago in Grant Park, July 9-13.

Wrigley Field

Today, Chicago wishes a very special happy birthday to our dearly beloved, tried and true old friend Wrigley Field! Join the city in celebrating this honorable birthday tonight with the Cubs sporting their 1914 uniforms back when the team was known as the Chi-Feds. Learn more about the season-long celebration for Wrigley Field at www.wrigleyfield100.com, and enjoy our photo gallery homage to the home of the Cubbies.

Concert Crowd

Chicago is home to a number of rock venues whose reputation precede them including the iconic, independently-owned Metro, the world-famous incubator for the best in independent music, the Empty Bottle, the Aragon Ballroom (and its legendary Capone-era underground tunnels), and many more. Rock lovers in Chicago are lucky though, these beloved clubs are just the tip of the iceberg in a city that offers concertgoers live rock music 365 days a year. We've gone above and beyond the typical concert listings to rounded up some of our favorite small clubs and other hot spots for live music.

Chinatown

Chicago: a city of immigrants and the communities they live in. This is what makes our city distinctive. We come from far and wide, melding into the character of the Second City, while retaining our ethnic heritage. So come along as we explore: Chinatown. Follow along on social media all week long as Choose Chicago invites you to get to know Chinatown.
