Chicago's Shedd Aquarium recently asked its visitors, are you a Sheddhead? Do you want to be one? The Shedd Aquarium has unveiled Sheddheads.org, an interactive, photo and video sharing web site to highlight the favorite moments of Shedd enthusiasts – or Sheddheads! The first of its kind for any zoo or aquarium in the United States, Sheddheads.org is a dedicated site for Shedd fans to share their love of Shedd – from photos of tiny day geckos to videos of mesmerizing beluga whales!
With thousands of amazing Shedd videos and photos pouring into general clip-sharing sites like YouTube.com and Flickr.com, Shedd Aquarium created its first ever site for Shedd enthusiasts to view remarkable and fun experiences as well as exchange great Shedd moments. Guests can step into the limelight by posting their favorite clips or photos from their experiences at the aquarium – whether they happened yesterday or 77 years ago.
The best part of Sheddheads.org is that it is so simple and easy-to-use. Fans of Shedd can register as a Sheddhead user and immediately browse amazing photos, creative videos, and even quirky moments captured by fellow Sheddheads, as well as post their own video or photo connection. Registered users can also comment and rate other clips posted to the web site. Regular contests hosted by the aquarium through the web site will invite visitors who caught amazing moments during their visits to participate for a variety of great prizes.
Oceanarium Renovation Announcement - May 2008
As I’m sure you heard this week, we are going to renovate the Oceanarium and enhance our guest amenities throughout the aquarium. Let me emphasize: The aquarium is open – every day except Christmas – and will remain open throughout the Oceanarium renovation.
After Labor Day (Sept. 2), we will temporarily close ONLY the Oceanarium, so encourage people to see the dolphins, whales, sea otters, sea lions, and penguins now, before they go “on vacation” to other aquariums. The Oceanarium will be closed between Sept. 2 and early summer 2009.
While the Oceanarium is closed, there are still 25,900 animals to see in the aquarium galleries, the Caribbean Reef, Amazon Rising and Wild Reef, plus exciting features in the 4-D Theater. And we’ll add new animal encounters, never-before-offered behind-the-scenes tours and many other entertaining and educational programs designed for the entire family.
