Event planners committed to making environmentally friendly choices for their trade shows, conventions and other business conferences find Chicago to be a great location for a meeting of the minds.

Leading the charge is Mayor Richard M. Daley, a passionate environmentalist who put the city on track to become the greenest city in America. His appointment of Sadhu Johnston to the new position of Deputy Chief of Staff functioning as Chief Environmental Officer in the Mayor's Office - the first position of its kind in the nation – further strengthens the city’s environmental promise and provides support on virtually every level.

Chicago offers a wide range of green meeting venues – including the new McCormick Place® West, the largest new-construction building in the country to receive the coveted LEED® Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its environmentally-friendly design.

Transportation via Chicago Transit Authority’s convenient bus and elevated/subway train lines offer easy, reliable service between hotels, meeting venues, and great city attractions.

Meeting Professionals International Chicago Area Chapter provides a quick checklist of the things meeting planners can do for the environment in its newsletter (page 16) article “Green Meetings: Helping Us All Breathe a Little Easier". Discover more great green meeting resources in the e-handbook Vertigo: Plan to Meet Green created by MPI’s six Canadian Chapters.
