By allowing charter buses for convention and trade shows to bypass local traffic, this two-lane, 2.5-mile roadway decreases travel times and subsequently, busing costs, for transporting attendees between their hotels and the convention center.
Travel time along the busway averages eight minutes from Randolph Street to McCormick Place – a significant reduction over use of regular downtown streets.
Convention and trade show managers will continue to operate their own individual charter bus programs to downtown hotels. The busway simply provides a quicker, more direct route for them between McCormick Place and downtown. (Click here to see a map)
The busway runs from Randolph Street to 25th Street at Martin Luther King Drive, parallel to Michigan Avenue. Entrance and exits are on Lower Randolph just east of Columbus, and just south of McCormick Place at 25th Street.
