$196 Million in Convention Business Comes to Chicago in November

(Chicago, IL)-October 19, 2006-For the month of November, the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau (CCTB) has 26 conventions, trade shows and other meetings on record. According to Mark Theis, CCTB’s Executive Vice President, Sales, “These events are expected to attract 147,475 attendees, who will spend an estimated $196 million while in the city of Chicago.”

Following are the highlights:

Mobile Business Expo

CMP Media will produce Mobile Business Expo October 31-November 3 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The show is expected to attract 1500 delegates and generate an estimated $1 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.
This three-day conference will feature keynote speakers, workshops and conference sessions demonstrating how IT and business professionals can increase productivity, improve customer care and encourage more timely communication and information using wireless technology.

American Heart Association-Scientific Sessions

Over 30,000 delegates will meet at McCormick Place for the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions, the premier cardiovascular instructional and research meeting in the world. The show will be held November 12-15 and is expected to generate an estimated $42 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.

The sessions focus on the field of basic science, clinical science and population science. Through these various fields, attendees will have the opportunity to attend lectures, educational programs, scientific presentations and various sessions geared towards specific interests in the field of cardiovascular studies.

Association for Behavioral Cognitive Therapies Annual Convention

The Association for Behavioral Cognitive Therapies will hold its annual convention at the Hilton Chicago November 16-19. It is expected to attract over 3,000 attendees and generate an estimated $3 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.


Attendees will have the opportunity to partake in over 100 general events, including panel discussions, clinical roundtables and educational workshops.

Illinois Association of School Boards 2006 Joint Annual Conference

2006 Joint Annual Conference, the nation’s largest state education conference, will be held November 17-19. The conference is made up of the Illinois Association of School Boards, Illinois Association of School Administrators and the Illinois Association of School Business Officials. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and Sheraton Chicago and is expected to attract 12,500 delegates and generate an estimated $9 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.


The event is geared towards state and regional educators and school officials, university staff, exhibitors and guests. These attendees will have the opportunity through workshops and panel discussions to gain information and share insight about issues in school governance and Illinois education.

Radiological Society of North America


The Radiological Society of North America will be held at McCormick Place November 26-December 1. It is expected to attract 64,000 attendees and generate an estimated $116 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.

This five-day event is the world’s largest radiology meeting and will offer attendees the opportunity to share ideas, explore the latest advances in scientific research and view breakthrough technologies through exhibitions.
