Perspective Gallery's January 2015 exhibition Water and Ice features two artists, Jeffrie Chirchirillo and Fakhruddin Adamji. Although their styles are dissimilar, they share a fascination with water.
Jeffrie Chirchirillo's show is titled The 2014 Polar Vortex: Chiberia Revisited. Chirchirillo shudders when he remembers the winter of 2013/2014. The days were cold, snowy, dark and short. "The winter seemed to go on forever. But," he observes, "the winter produced some unique instances of beauty." One example was the formation of icicles on the roof of his greenhouse as the ice froze and melted on its glass walls. Each winter morning, he was excited to see what new ice formations developed during the night. They had to be photographed quickly, however, before warmer temperatures caused them to melt and disappear.
Fakhruddin Adamji's show is titled By the Water's Edge. Adamji, a physician, finds photography to be therapeutic for himself as well as his patients. Over the years, he has observed two kinds of people, "mountain people who like hills and mountains, and water people who like lakes, rivers and oceans." Having grown up on an island, he is a self-described water person. In fact, he both lives and takes vacations near bodies of water. He especially loves the water's edge.
