  • The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), in collaboration with Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago, Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago and Trinity Irish Dance Company, spotlights Chicago’s exceptionally diverse percussive dance community with the third annual citywide STOMPING GROUNDS, a series of free community performances and education programs April 3–June 2. Showcasing African, Irish, Mexican, Spanish, Chinese and American cultural traditions, this multi-performance event is a celebration of the rhythmic arts that connects diverse communities through rhythm.

STOMPING GROUNDS is a series of free events in six distinct communities showcasing six percussive dance companies. The five primary companies host “Performalogues” and present lecture-demonstrations, master classes and teacher training programs in 10 to 12 Chicago Public Schools throughout the spring. In addition, special guests GuGu Drum Group from Shanghai perform a solo concert.

Each “Performalogue” includes performances by a host company, a featured company and a guest company, along with dialogue between the artists and audience throughout the evening, food trucks and visual arts exhibitions.
