Phoenix Sun's star Shannon Brown comes back to his roots in Illinois to present the 2nd Annual Wood-Star Music Festival. On August 17-19, listen to great music and participate in a variety of activities while giving back to the community. Your money will go toward The Shannon Brown Foundation, providing scholarships to underprivileged youth in Chicago and Brown's hometown of Maywood.
Concerts
This festival features an all-star lineup in Union Park, with one night focusing on Soul and another throwing back to the ‘old skool' block party:
- August 18 - "Soul in the City" - Dawn Richard, Estelle, Brown's wife R&B star Monica and Robin Thicke
- August 19 - "Kangols and 8 ball Jackets" - Rakim, MC Lyte, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh
- VHI's Janell Snowden and MTV's Sway Calloway will host the concerts
Celebrity Basketball Game
- August 19 at 12 p.m. at the UIC Flames Center
- Team coached by Shannon Brown
- Half-time performance by teen group TK N Cash
- *Kids grades 7-11 can participate in the Basketball Clinic for free on August 18. Space is limited.
