On Sunday, February 17, the home of the Chicago Bears will play host to a fantastic event featuring some of the top college hockey teams in the country.
The Hockey City Classic will feature four nationally ranked men's hockey teams with incredible traditions. At noon, the University of Notre Dame will face off against Miami (Ohio), followed by a battle of Big Ten powerhouses when Minnesota and Wisconsin hit the ice.
Chicago hockey fans will note that two players that were recently drafted by the Blackhawks will be playing in the games: defenseman Stephen Johns with the Fighting Irish, and defenseman Justin Holl with the Golden Gophers. Minnesota is currently the top-ranked team in the country.
Surrounding the two games will be a fantastic winter festival. Starting February 1, there will be a number of incredible opportunities for the public to skate outdoors and Hall of Famer Denis Savard will host a youth hockey clinic on February 6.
On February 8-9, there will be a series of high school hockey games featuring some of the top programs in the Chicagoland area. There will also be ice time available to the general public. For more information about the Winter Festival, click here.
Also, the ice at Soldier Field will be available to youth, high school and adult teams on a limited basis. Click here for information about ice time.
When the puck drops on February 17, fans can catch the games inside Soldier Field or at many great venues throughout the city. The first game of the day, between Notre Dame and Miami, will be televised by Fox Sports Net (Comcast SportsNet locally), while the second contest between Minnesota and Wisconsin will be televised by the Big Ten Network. Both games will be broadcast on the radio by WMVP ESPN 1000 in Chicago.
