The 2013 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament is coming to Chicago in March. To celebrate, Chicago Like a Local will be highlighting the best area bars for each Big Ten team. Now, let's examine a few establishments where Boilermakers aren't only on the menu. Here are Chicago's best places to watch Purdue basketball.
This place has over two dozen 52" flat screens, so you'll never miss a Terone Johnson put back. The West Loop's charming throwback is complete with Wi-Fi and free parking. If you're bringing a gaggle of West Lafayette faithful, ask about group packages. Their discounted rates for groups of 15 or more are enough to make Gene Keady's comb over stand at attention.
It might be a few hours north on I-65, but Division Ale House can feel like Mackey Arena while the Boilermakers are on the floor. Their beer list has a heavy English and Irish feel to it, and the menu has some unique, modern twists on everyday favorites. Check them out on Facebook for Purdue specials.
A short walk down Division from the Division Ale House is The Smoke Daddy. Live jazz and blues acts take the stage every night, and the authentic pit barbeque food is incredible. This is another great spot in Wicker Park to watch a game.
This fantastic spot in Wrigleyville is an official Purdue Bar, serving great food and drinks to Boilermakers from all over the city. The menu features pizza and a wide range of sandwiches to help golden and black fans through second half comebacks against Minnesota.
An official Purdue Alumni bar, the Fireplace Inn has a great menu loaded with steaks, chops, barbeque and seafood. A fixture in Old Town since 1969, they're home to some of the best food in the city - and a Purdue atmosphere as Boilermaker-friendly as Drew Brees' man cave.
