Last summer, Choose Chicago launched the Chicago Information Guide service to help visitors navigate the city. In just 10 weeks this team assisted more than 39,000 people.

Building on the success of last season, Choose Chicago hired additional Chicago Information Guides for Summer 2013 and the program - which is currently in full swing - will run through Labor Day. These Guides, who are outfitted in blue shirts and white baseball caps, assist people in areas that are highly trafficked by out-of-town visitors (The Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park and Navy Pier).

Meet Our Guides

Chicago Information Guide

Who: Chicago Information Guides will be wearing blue shirts with the universal "i" for information logo and a white baseball cap. 

What: Chicago Information Guides will assist visitors, navigate and answer questions about the city, and provide personal service.

When:  May 24 - September 2, 2013.

Where:  Chicago Information Guides will be in teams of up to four and located throughout high traffic, visitor locations in downtown Chicago, along Michigan Avenue.

Hours: Michigan Avenue & Navy Pier (South Dock Street), 7 days a week, from 10:00am-5:00pm, Millennium Park, 7 days a week, from 10:00am - 6:00pm.

With IPW '14 coming to Chicago in less than a year, Choose Chicago is making a prevailing presence at this year's event (June 8-12). Choose Chicago staff from Tourism, Sales, PR, Marketing, Cultural Tourism and our in-country representatives from China, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Brazil are all in Las Vegas right now for IPW '13. Choose Chicago's 10' x 50' booth is our largest ever and we'll have a branded aisle full of Choose Chicago partners.

Our agenda in Las Vegas has included four reserved tables at the Monday and Tuesday luncheons featuring our staff, special guests, tour operators and media. Choose Chicago is also hosting a buyer and media event at Tryst Nightclub. This invitation-only networking event is an exciting opportunity to introduce Chicago in a new way and officially start the countdown to IPW '14.

Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine Spread

Our goal at Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine is to be THE place to go to enjoy cheese, charcuterie, and dinner fare perfectly paired with small production wines and craft beers. I think to that end, we're off to a great start, not only as a neighborhood gem, but also as a destination in East Lakeview.

We are a very new partner with Choose Chicago, but already we've had the opportunity to expand our reach to so many people who are visiting the city. Many learned about us on Choose Chicago's website, through its editorial partners or from their two Visitor Information Centers.

We joined Choose Chicago because we had small shops and a new restaurant in three different areas of the city. We knew that visitors, especially those from the East and West coasts and Europe, have an affinity for what we do. Our expectation was to become a destination visit rather than a place that visitors just happen upon... or worse yet, don't happen upon at all!

Since joining Choose Chicago, we've been very pleased. We find the staff responsive and helpful. Partnering with Choose Chicago's Public Relations team helped us garner some editorial mentions for summer travel articles. The website and other venues helped us get the word out for our 3rd Annual Artisan Producer Festival last April.

Dollar for dollar, there are few ways to orchestrate an effective marketing plan targeted to out of town business and leisure travelers, as well as event planners bringing groups to the city. In the past you had to work with multiple organizations, but Choose Chicago is doing great so far in communicating a unified message to visitors. And the organization hasn't even reached its full potential yet.


At Pastoral Artisan Cheese Bread & Wine, we are proud of the way our corporate and events catering and gifting business has grown. In fact, many of the city's top companies and event planning groups work with us to delight their employees or clients. Also, we are quite proud to sell our cheeses to over 85 of Chicago's finest sit down restaurants and hotels all over town.

Bar Pastoral just opened at the end of 2012, which drew a lot of attention for quickly becoming one of the city's foremost wine bars and bistros. It's been a great opportunity to present a sit down extension of our well-known gourmet retail food and wine shops. Additionally, we are excited for the new summer picnic and alfresco dining season and our partnerships with the Grant Park Music Festival (where we are a Preferred Partner and Impressario Wine Sponsor) and Wendella Boat Cruises, where we are doing Cheese & Wine boat cruises throughout the summer.

Greetings from the Choose Chicago Public Policy team. As you know we have been hard at work scheduling meetings with our legislators and educating them on the importance of the travel industry on the economy. In doing so, we have scheduled an exciting opportunity for you, our partners, to meet with Congressman Mike Quigley, a champion of our industry.

The event will take place on Monday, June 24, 11 AM - 1 PM at Goose Island Brewpub (1800 N. Clybourn Ave.) and is a roundtable discussion with the Congressman on the important state and federal issues that are inhibiting travel to Chicago. Topics that will be discussed include the JOLT Act (HR 1354), which would expand the Visa Waiver Program to US allies and allow for more convenient travel to the US, airport infrastructure, the importance of government meetings along with many more travel topics.

Chicago to Host 2014 ITU World Triathlon Series Race And 2015 Grand Final 

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced that it has selected USA Triathlon and the City of Chicago to host events as part of the 2014 and 2015 ITU World Triathlon Series (WTS), including the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final. Beginning next year, from June 27-29, Chicago will welcome the world's top Olympic-distance triathletes as an official stop on the WTS, alongside such cities as Auckland, Yokohama, London, Hamburg, Stockholm and Edmonton.   

Chicago will be the third-ever U.S. city to host a WTS race - joining San Diego (2013 and 2012) and Washington D.C. (2009) - and the first to host the WTS Grand Final since the series was founded in 2009. One-hundred and fifty of the world's fastest triathletes - 75 elite men and 75 elite women - will compete in the draft-legal, Olympic-distance race (1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run) along the shores of Lake Michigan. The race course will include such famous landmarks as Navy Pier, Soldier Field and Millennium Park, and culminate with a loop around Buckingham Fountain at the finish line.

USA Taekwondo

The 2013 National Championships/Junior Olympics is the premier Taekwondo event for competitors ranging from age 6-17. For more information, click here.

Nike Tournaments of Champions

CSC is assisting in hosting two Nike Tournament of Champions basketball events in July at McCormick Place. The first, from July 10-12, the NIKE National Invitational is the largest high school girls' basketball tournament in the country with over 350 teams participating, and over 550 collegiate coaches and recruiters representing universities nationwide will be in attendance.  For more information, click here.

The second event, the Elite Youth Jamboree, will also be taking place at McCormick Place from July 14-16, with close to 400 middle school girls' basketball teams competing. For more information, click here.


Live the passion of CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer this summer in Chicago! The final Gold Cup match, featuring the two best soccer teams from North America, Central America and the Carribean, will be at Soldier Field on Sunday July 28 at 3pm. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
