CHICAGO SETS TOURISM RECORD IN JULY WITH MORE THAN ONE MILLION OCCUPIED HOTEL ROOM NIGHTS

Chicago surpassed the one million mark for occupied hotel rooms in July, the first time in the city's history that more than one million rooms have been sold in a single month. Total room demand for July was up 1.4% to a record 1,004,557 room nights. This milestone follows an exceptional first half of 2014, which produced record demand with a 2.2% increase over the first six months of 2013.

BICYCLING MAGAZINE NAMES CHICAGO NO. 2 CITY FOR BIKING

Bicycling Magazine recently released its ranking of the Top 50 cities in the U.S. for bicycling, with Chicago taking second place behind New York. The magazine's editorial team examined U.S. Census data concerning the percent of bike commuters in each city and the rate by which it is growing, the amount and quality of cycling infrastructure, and data collected by national cycling advocacy groups.

CALIFORNIA, DAMEN BLUE LINE STATIONS TO CLOSE FOR RENOVATIONS

Two stations along the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)'s Blue Line - California and Damen - will close for renovations this fall and winter. The California stop will be closed through Oct. 16, while the Damen station will close Oct. 20 - Dec. 22. Free bus shuttle service will be offered to bridge the gap between shuttered stations.
