On May 20, Hampton Inn by Hilton Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave. officially opened in the former Art Deco Chicago Motor Club building located at 68 E. Wacker Place. Preservation of many of the building's historic elements, including its 33-foot high lobby featuring a 29-foot mural of popular road destinations, made up a signifcant amount of the renovation budget.
The 17-story, 143-room hotel offers amenities such as free WiFi, a 624-square-foot meeting space and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
"Returning the historic Chicago Motor Club Building to its original, exquisite form was extremely important to us," said John T. Murphy, president of Murphy Asset Management. A new Conrad Chicago hotel was announced, making it the sixth U.S.-based Conrad Hotels & Resorts property behind upcoming projects in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Washington D.C. Opening in Spring 2016, the Conrad Chicago will overlook Michigan Avenue from Erie Street, a convenient central location for dozens of entertainment options, from fine dining to luxury shopping and more. The hotel will have 287 rooms, 12 of which will be suites, and will offer more than 10,500 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting space.
In May, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Inc. announced the current Conrad Chicago hotel at 521 N. Rush St. will be rebranded under The Luxury Collection brand. This fall, the property will transition to Starwood management under a new name. This marks The Luxury Collection's debut in Chicago.
Formerly known as VALEO Chicago, the new Spa at JW Chicago will open in July 2015. New offerings include bento-box-inspired meals from the hotel's executive chef, renovated treatment rooms and new retail options, such as Trina Turk apparel and Clarisonic. Located in the hotel's lower galleria level, the spa has a full menu of treatments for guests and other visitors.
