INTERCONTINENTAL HOTELS GROUP TO ACQUIRE KIMPTON HOTELS

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has agreed to acquire Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants for $430 million in cash, creating the world's largest boutique hotel business. Kimpton is the world's largest independent boutique hotel operator and a sophisticated food and beverage operator. IHG becomes the clear market leader in the boutique segment, the fastest growing segment in the industry.

DESIGN/BUILD TEAM SELECTED FOR MCCORMICK PLACE EVENT CENTER AND HEADQUARTERS HOTEL

The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) selected Prairie District Partners as the design/build team for the 40-story, 1,200 room Marriott Marquis Chicago headquarters hotel and McCormick Place Event Center. Both facilities are part of the massive McCormick Place complex expansion that will revitalize the neighborhood and maintain Chicago as a world leader in the convention and trade show industry.

UNITED TO START CHICAGO-DUBLIN SERVICE IN 2015

United Airlines will operate seasonal nonstop service between Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Dublin Airport starting summer 2015. O'Hare becomes the third United hub with nonstop service to Dublin, Ireland, after New York/Newark and Washington Dulles. United launched seasonal service to Shannon, Ireland from June 6 to August 26, 2013.

CHICAGO NAMED ONE OF THE WORLD'S 100 MOST RESILIENT CITIES

Chicago was named one of the world's 35 most resilient cities by 100 Resilient Cities, a project funded by The Rockefeller Foundation. According to the project's website, Chicago has "demonstrated a commitment to building capacities to navigate the shocks and stresses of an increasingly complex 21st Century."

GLOBAL TRAVELER NAMES UNITED AIRLINES 'AIRLINE OF THE YEAR'

A panel of Global Traveler Advisory Board members and employees chose United Airlines as its 2014 Airline of the Year. The decision was made based on outside research, travel experience with the airline and information provided by nominated airlines. United was also named Best Trans-Pacific Airline and its MileagePlus program was named Best Frequent-Flyer Program for the 11th straight year.
