CHICAGO COMPANIES CONTINUE TO GROW

Global and domestic companies continue to locate and expand in Chicago. In the third quarter, World Business Chicago identified more than 40 growing companies in its analysis of the city's business scene. The organization attributes the growth to all the amenities the city has to offer, including its impressive talent pool and access to the world.

FIRST PHASE OF NEW RIVERWALK TO BEGIN

Walsh Construction Company will build the first three clock of the Chicago Riverwalk from State Street to LaSalle Street. This is the first phase of the new riverwalk plan, and will include an extension of 25 feet from the current configuration into the river, and connections under each bridge. The first three blocks expect to be done by the end of 2014. The project includes the build out of six blocks from State Street to Lake Street with distinctive identities and purposes for each. They are thematically named The Marina, The Cove, The River Theater, The Swimming Hole, The Jetty and The Boardwalk.

DIVVY BIKE PROGRAM TO EXPAND

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that 75 additional Divvy bike share stations will be installed next year. This is beyond the 100 that are already planned for the spring. There are currently 300 stations in Chicago, and the new stations would expand that number to 475, making Divvy the largest bike share operation in North America and the fifth largest in the world.

CHICAGO, ECUADOR AIRPORTS PARTNER TO INCREASE BUSINESS

The Chicago Department of Aviation and the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito in Ecuador signed a "Sister Airport" agreement. This partnership signifies a commitment for the two organizations to work collaboratively to strengthen air service, trade, tourism and cultural links between Chicago and Quito.
