DES MOINES, IOWA (December, 2012) Midwest Living® magazine partnered with Choose Chicago, the City's premier marketing and tourism organization, for a Chicago Getaway contest.
The Why I Choose Chicago Contest asked entrants to "Like" Choose Chicago and explain why they choose Chicago as a getaway vacation. Participants promoted their favorite Chicago experiences on Facebook and rallied their friends to vote for them. A panel of judges judged the 10 top vote getters on quality of photos and written submission, adherence to contest theme and creativity.

Choose Chicago worked with top city lodgings, restaurants and attractions to create three exceptional prizes. The winners and their prizes are:

  • Tammy Raulerson, College Station, Texas, winner of the Family Fun Adventure: a two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, dining at Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, four Chicago CityPASS ticket booklets and a Penguin Encounter for four at Shedd Aquarium.
  • Ashlee Burris, Oak Grove, Kentucky, winner of the Spa-cation Getaway: two nights at the W Chicago Lakeshore, four gift certificates at Bliss Chicago Spa, four Chicago CityPASS ticket booklets and four passes to The Second City and UP Comedy Club.
  • Angie Satterfield, Vevay, Indiana, winner of the Romantic Escape: a two-night stay at Trump Hotel Chicago, two Chicago CityPASS ticket booklets, and dining at Nellcôte Restaurant.

To enter, travelers had to answer the question, "Why do you choose Chicago as your getaway destination?" in 100 words or less, and could upload up to five Chicago vacation photos to enhance their story. Participants were encouraged to be creative and then promote their entries through their Facebook friends.
