OPEN AT O'HARE'S TERMINAL 5
International Terminal 5 revealed new eateries and shops as part of the
concessions development that began in 2012. The additions include Tocco,
XpresSpa and Kofe powered by Intelligentsia. Tocca is a modern Italian eatery
that serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas. Kofe is a debut coffeebar from
Chicago-based roaster Intelligentsia that serves a wide array of fresh coffee
beverages and exotic teas. XpresSpa offers premium services such as massages,
manicures, pedicures, facials and hot shaves.
CHICAGO FIRE TO
BUILD NORTH SIDE SOCCER CENTER
The Chicago Fire
Soccer Club will develop a new Chicago Fire Soccer Center on the North Side of
the city. The 140,000-square-foot center will include two, regulation size turf
soccer fields and the first air-supported dome within Chicago's city limits.
When it is completed in summer 2014, the center will provide year-round access
to soccer fields. The complex will also include a 15,000-square-foot building
with a mix of restaurants, retail and training facilities.
OF MODERN ART TO EXPAND
Institute of Modern Art, founded in 1971, will undergo a major expansion with
the help of the original architect, Stanley Tigerman. The expansion will
include two floors and a sculpture garden, The extra space would accommodate
workshops and classrooms, expand the archives and enable the museum to display
larger works. There are also plans to extend the museum's hours.
CHICAGO AWARDED TWO
MAJOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The NCAA announced
523 sites have been awarded as hosts for 82 of its 89 championships for the
2014-18 seasons. Chicago grabbed two of those championships. The Men's Frozen
Four will be held at the United Center in 2017, the first time that event has
been held at the home of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks; and the Men's Gymnastics
Championship will be held at UIC Pavilion in 2018.
