CHICAGO TO GET NEW INTERNATIONAL PUPPET FESTIVAL

Chicago will welcome a new city-wide cultural festival featuring puppet shows at a variety of arts venues. The inaugural, 10-day Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival is slated for January 16-25, 2015. The new festival celebrates the art of contemporary puppetry, according to organizers. A scholarly conference will accompany the festival and the new event will make Chicago the only U.S. city with an international puppet festival.

NOBU HOTEL, RESTAURANT TO ENTER CHICAGO

Nobu Hospitality LLC announced plans to develop a luxury boutique Nobu Hotel and Restaurant in Chicago. The new hotel and restaurant will be located in the West Loop at the corner of Randolph and Peoria Streets and will feature 155 luxury rooms, as well as a special indoor and outdoor bar. The Nobu Hotel is slated to open in early 2016.

SILVERSMITH HOTEL COMPLETES MAJOR RENOVATION

The Silversmith Hotel completed its multimillion renovations and opened a new lounge and restaurant, Adamus. The hotel's 143 newly renovated guest rooms feature hues of silver, gray and neutrals, with chartreuse and fuchsia accents and crystal lighting fixtures for a modern twist. Bathrooms have been decorated with graphic print wallpaper and feature walk-in showers. The new lounge and restaurant invites guests to enjoy handcrafted cocktails and small bites in a welcoming, social environment.

DAVE BERAN OF NEXT RESTAURANT NAMED A FOOD & WINE BEST NEW CHEF

Food & Wine magazine named Dave Beran, executive chef at Next restaurant, one of the 10 Best New Chefs of 2014. Beran is the 15th Chicago-area chef to make the annual list in the last 15 years. Previous honorees include Stephanie Izzard (Girl and the Goat), Michael Carlson (Schwa) and Paul Virant (Perennial Virant).
