THE ART INSTITUTE UNVEILS A NEW FREE TOURS APP
The Art Institute of Chicago’s new free app allows guests to experience the museum with a personalized touch. The museum hired Meridian Apps to install new technology that acts like indoor GPS. More than 200 sensors were installed in the historic building, enabling visitors to get step-by-step directions for different tours or works of art. As part of the upgrade, the museum now has free Wi-Fi throughout the building. The app allows guests to experience the museum by individual interests, themes, collections or allotted time. The free app offers:
- 50 personalized tours, each featuring 6–10 works of art, with brief entries that explain each work's connection to a theme or its significance in the history of art.
- Explore by types of tours: by collections, themes, time and step-by-step directions from one artwork to the next.
