CHICAGO EXPERIENCES RECORD VISITATION FOR 2013

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that domestic visitation to Chicago in 2013 hit an all-time record of 46.96 million visitors, a gain of 4.4% over 2012. Overseas visitation for the year is expected to increase to more than 1.4 million, helping the city meet the mayor's goal of attracting 55 million visitors by 2020.

THOMPSON HOTEL NAMED ONE OF THE BEST NEW HOTELS IN THE WORLD

Condé Nast Traveler named the Thompson Hotel as one of the winners of its 18th annual "Hot List" of the Best New Hotels in the World. The Thompson was named as one of the best food hotels, thanks to its restaurant Nico Osteria from noted Chicago chef Paul Kahan. The magazine considered 510 hotels in 400 cities and 93 countries, but only 33 made the final list.

O'HARE IS FIRST U.S. AIRPORT TO EXPAND APC TECHNOLOGY

Chicago's O'Hare International Airport announced that the Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks have been upgraded to accommodate more international travelers, making it the first U.S. airport to expand the technology. Previously, the kiosks were only available to U.S. and Canadian citizens, but now the multi-lingual kiosks will be open to travelers from 38 countries that do not require U.S. entry visas.

JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION AWARDS TO BE HELD IN CHICAGO IN 2015

Chicago will host the James Beard Foundation Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception in 2015, marking the first time the ceremony will be held outside New York City. The 25th Anniversary of the "Oscars of the Food Industry," is scheduled to take place at Lyric Opera of Chicago on May 4, 2015. Chicago has a deep history with the foundation, delivering restaurant and chef winners 23 out of 24 years.

CHICAGO SPORTS MUSEUM AND HARRY CARAY'S 7TH INNING STRETCH OPEN

Harry Caray's 7th Inning Stretch and the Chicago Sports Museum are the latest additions to the attractions along Chicago's Magnificent Mile. Located on the seventh floor of Water Tower Place, the restaurant serves up twists on classic American comfort food, while the museum features interactive displays and sports memorabilia.
