CHICAGO RANKS SECOND ON CVENT’S TOP 50 MEETING DESTINATIONS IN THE U.S.
Cvent’s fifth annual list of the year's top destinations for meeting planners named Chicago second among the Top 50. Cvent evaluated over 5,000 cities, ranking them based on meeting and event booking activity in the Cvent Supplier Network, as well as the number of meeting and event venues in the area.
FORMER BULLS’ TRAINING CENTER OPENS AS VENUE ONE NORTH SHORE
The former practice facility the Chicago Bulls used while Michael Jordan was leading the team to six NBA championships is now a premier North Shore location for social events. Planners can take advantage of 85,000 square feet of event space for meetings, celebrations and private functions. Highlights include an exclusive Wine Room, a 7,400-square-foot outdoor garden and on-site culinary staff.
THREE NEW HOTEL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS ARE HAPPENING AT O’HARE
The arrival of three hotel development projects at O’Hare International Airport will more than double the current hotel capacity at the airport. This multi-million dollar investment will include the construction of two new hotels and the modernization of the existing O’Hare Hilton.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and American Airlines, through a joint initiative, will install new screening technology, including automated security screening lanes and computed tomography (CT) scanners, at select American Airlines hubs nationwide this fall.
Automated screening lanes will incorporate technology and screening station modifications that will decrease security times by approximately 30 percent.
STEADFAST, FROM THE FIFTY/50 RESTAURANT GROUP, IS NOW OPEN
The new chef-driven concept inside The Kimpton Gray Hotel includes a dining room reminiscent of old Hollywood, elegant salads and small plates.
Steadfast has a private dining room that accommodates up to 20 guests, and the restaurant has the capacity for larger group reservations as well.
The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group eatery showcases New American cuisine, incorporating Mediterranean and Portuguese influences. Menu highlights include Fried Chicken Skins, Chocolate Covered Foie Gras, Smoked Oxtail Croquette, Whole Roasted Duck, and Butter Poached Maine Lobster.
INTERCONTINENTAL CHICAGO CATERS TO CHINESE TRAVELERS WITH “CHINA-READY” OFFERINGS
As part of a corporate-wide plan with InterContinental Hotels Group to attract Chinese travelers, InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile is pleased to offer those visiting from China a selection of "China-Ready” amenities designed to make their stay feel like home.
Offerings include authentic cuisine and Mandarin speaking staff trained to communicate with non-English visitors, along with a welcome pack, Chicago maps and magazines available in Mandarin, and Mandarin TV channels.
Chicago's West Loop neighborhood will be home to celebrity chef-inspired hotel, Nobu, owned in partnership with actor Robert DeNiro. The property is slated to open on Restaurant Row in late 2017 and will mark the latest addition to Nobu's expanding collection of hotels. Nobu was recently named as the one of the world's top 25 innovative luxury brands by Robb Report.
The Spa at JW Chicago, located inside JW Marriott Chicago, announced the launch of the hotel’s first-ever wellness program, specifically tailored for meetings and events.
Meeting attendees can now go from a session to a workout while experiencing meetings enhancements, such as meditation and posture exercises, as well as private wellness classes, like a scenic run/walk in downtown Chicago to an educational healthy eating class.
VOLARIS AIRLINES FLIES BETWEEN CHICAGO AND MONTERREY, MEXICO
Volaris Airlines announced new twice-weekly service between Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Monterrey International Airport. This is the Mexico-based ultra-low-cost carrier's first nonstop, transborder (U.S.-Mexico) service from Monterrey. The flight offers seating for 174 passengers and operates on Monday and Friday.
