Cheers your time in the city with a Chicago-themed cocktail! Sample some Chicago nightlife with these cocktails that reflect the city's local flavor. Wind down after a busy day in the Windy City by trying one of the many drinks inspired by Chicago history, culture, neighborhood and landmarks.
BIG Bar // 151 E Upper Wacker Dr
The BIG Bar at the Hyatt Regency Hotel offers the widest selection of Chicago-themed drinks and is located just off the Chicago River in the Loop. The Big Bar menu is full of specialty cocktails, margaritas, mojitos, and martinis all named for Chicago icons. Try the hottest drink on the menu — Chicago Fire — named for our pro soccer team and prepared with Cuervo Gold, Cointreau, pineapple, lime, jalapeno, tabasco and grenadine. Or for some rum, order the Blues Brother made with Bacardi Limon, Blue Curacao, pineapple and Sierra Mist!
Vermilion // 10 W Hubbard St
Vermilion tips its hat to Chicago with these four signature drinks: LSD, Lake Michigan, Magnificent Mile and Devil in the White City. Like the restaurant's Latin-Indian dishes, Vermilion's "Ode to Chicago" cocktails are carefully concocted and delicately designed. LSD, the common nickname for Lake Shore Drive (Chicago's famous waterfront roadway) is made with green chartreuse, gin, Assam green tea and oleo saccharum. The Magnificent Mile — crafted with sparkling wine, bouquet ice and habanero ginger infusion — is every bit as delightful as a stroll down Michigan Avenue. Devil in the White City (cardamom saffron liqueur, coconut milk and vanilla) is a sweet and creamy combination topped with a single red rose petal making it as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the tastebuds.
Try the Tavern at the Park when looking for top-shelf liquors. The
Treehouse, Tavern at the Park's rooftop patio that overlooks Millennium
Park, has two Chicago-themed selections. The Sangria in the White City
(a play off the famous book and soon-to-be movie move, Devil in the
White City) is a white sangria on ice with seasonal fruits. Cloud Gate
is perhaps the most opulent cocktail in Chicago, is crafted with pear
vodka infused in house and served up. Named for Chicago's favorite
sculpture, more commonly called "The Bean", the rim of the glass is
coated in edible silver and garnished with a Tiffany & Co. bean
GreenRiver // 259 E Erie St, 18th Floor
GreenRiver's name was not inspired by the Chicago tradition of dying the river green for St. Patrick's Day, rather it is a tribute to the Irish-American Chicagoans, a community that helped to rebuild the city after the Great Chicago Fire and whose stories flow through Chicago's history like a "green river". GreenRiver in Streeterville draws inspiration from Chicago's icons,
landmarks and Irish community when crafting its unique cocktails. Lincoln Park, one of GreenRiver's signature drinks, is named for the historic North Side neighborhood and is a blend of Glenlivet 12 year speyside and Laphroaig 10 year single malt scotch whiskies, Cappelletti Aperitivo, jasmine, Coco Lopex and pineapple.
Harry Caray's Tavern also mixes up their drink menu with several Chicago-themed selections. Harry Caray was the announcer for the Chicago Cubs from 1982 until he passed in 1998. Now his tavern pays tribute to Cub's stadium, Wrigley Field, with the Wrigley Rita (a margarita created with Don Julio Blanco tequila, Cointreau orange liqueur, lime sour, lemon juice, orange juice, lime wedge and an orange slice). If dining at Harry Caray's Navy Pier location, try the Navy Pear!
Presidio // 1749 N Damen Ave
Presidio's drink menu playfully pits its two locations (Chicago and San
Francisco) against each other in some friendly competition. The menu is
divided into two section — one for Chicago-themed drinks and another for
San Francisco. The Presidio's Chicago drink selection includes the Boystown Royale,
inspired by the large LBGT community that calls the Boytown
neighborhood home, made with vodka, hibiscus, lemon, and prosecco.
And here are 8 more Chicago-inspired sips dotting drink menus around the city:
