A gathering of internationally renowned chefs, master sommeliers and winemakers... and you! Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet, a celebration of food and wine, is one of the nation's most anticipated epicurean events. Now in its ninth season, the fine-dining affair transforms Chicago's Millennium Park from gorgeous architectural green space to the grandest of festival eating grounds. Sip and sample across Chicago's culinary landscape over three delicious days, September 23-25, 2016.

Wine snobs are welcome and if you fancy yourself a foodie, this culinary showcase is made for you. More than 150 of the finest restaurants and chefs in Chicago are represented — as well as hundreds of renowned vintners, spirit makers and premium breweries from around the globe — at gourmet tasting pavilions that highlight the rich variety and creativity of the world-class food scene.

Festival highlights include the opening events, where you can whet your appetite at the Hamburger Hop and Late Night Gourmet, plus the debut of a new celebrity chef showdown event, The Tao of Tacos.

CHICAGO GOURMET 2016 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS


 

September 23: Hamburger Hop

  • Time: 6 - 9 p.m.
  • Place: Harris Theater Rooftop in Millennium Park (205 E. Randolph St.)
  • Tickets: $125 

To kick-off the weekend festivities, Friday evening's Hamburger Hop puts the simple dish center stage in a competition to name the city's best burger. You be the judge as you eat through dizzying combinations of toppings, artisanal breads and the most select cuts of meat. Along with the People's Choice winner, a panel of celebrity judges picks a winner from among the local kitchen stars behind the grills. The friendly cook off benefits the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

 

September 23: Late Night Gourmet

  • Time: 9 p.m. - 12 a.m.
  • Place: The Underground (56 W. Illinois St.)

Let the late night revelry continue after the Hamburger Hop at the official after-party, Late Night Gourmet. Hosted by CS Magazine, this foodie fête at the the River North hotspot The Underground will bring delectable bites and tasty libations together with music by special guest deejay.

 

September 24-25: Chicago Gourmet

  • Time: 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday & 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday

Rows and rows of gourmet tasting pavilions are spread throughout the Great Lawn, featuring a variety of cuisines, celebrity chefs and more. Feast on food from all of the city's top restaurants, all in one place!

Chicago Gourmet 2016 features a stellar talent lineup of culinary rockstars. Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, XOCO) will be Chicago Gourmet's first official Host chef and celebrity chef headliner, creating new cooking seminars, demos and more fun surprises. 

Rub elbows with the biggest and best names in the food world.  — on tap to attend the 2016 event are award-winning chefs such as Stephanie Izard (The Girl and the Goat, Little Goat, and Duck Duck Goat), Jimmy Bannos Jr. (The Purple Pig), Rohini Dey (Vermilion), Tony Mantuano (Spiaggi, Terzo Piano, Bar Toma, River Roast, Takashi Yagihashi (Slurping Turtle) and Anthony Reyes (Carmine's & Rosebud Steakhouse).

And when you've had your fill, you can meet-and-greet with celebrated chefs and noted personalities at book signings; see the experts in their element at live demonstrations; brush up on your own skills with industry tips at insightful seminars; or even enjoy exclusive tastings in the company of Master Sommeliers.

 

September 24: The Tao of Tacos

  • Time: 8 - 10 p.m.
  • Place: Harris Theater Rooftop in Millennium Park (205 E. Randolph St.)
  • Tickets: $95

12 leading chefs of wide culinary backgrounds take on the art of tacos. The Tao of Tacos, hosted by Rick Bayless, will showcase some of the city's top chefs in a showdown to see who can make the taco their own. Saturday night guests will enjoy margaritas and lagunitas during the cook-off at Harris Theatre Rooftop. Competitors include Takashi Yagihashi of Slurping Turtle, Purple Pig's Jimmy Bannos Jr., Vermilion's Rohini Dey, Mindy Segal of Mindy's HotChocolate and more!

 

September 24-25: Grand Cru Tasting at Chicago Gourmet

  • Time: 2 - 4 p.m.
  • Place: Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph St.)
  • Tickets: $199

Sniff, swirl and yes, even spit. Enjoy the finest vintages in the world at Grand Cru, a 2-hour tasting led by Master Sommeliers, an elite core of Chicago's top sommeliers, and representatives from many highly-regarded wineries. Soak in their wine wisdom, and the exclusive pours, at this special event within Chicago Gourmet, held both Saturday and Sunday with the purchase of a separate ticket from the Main Event.

 

September 25: Rise & Shine Gourmet

Get a jump on the day with Rise & Shine Gourmet, a sunrise yoga class with a backdrop of serene, breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's famed architecture. A family fun run/walk will also take place on the park's famous skating ribbon, giving guests a chance to "earn" their eats! After breaking a sweat, families will celebrate the day with brunch bites from Chicago's top eateries.

August 25: Paella Cook-Off

For the 3rd time, Chicago Gourmet will be hosting a Paella Cook-off. The challenge will prove which of the eight chefs can create the MVP (most valuable paella). The event will benefit the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The Spanish-influenced showdown will be hosted by chef Jose Garces (Mercat a la Plaxa) and judged by a panel that will include Mario Rizzotti of Iron Chef America. Tickets will include samplings of the chef's creations and Spain-themed beverages — sangria, cocktails and beer.
