Yes it may be winter in Chicago, but the fun doesn’t stop just because there’s a chill in the air! Snow Days Chicago gets kids and families out and about in celebration of the season. Bundle up and head over to the year-round playground that is Navy Pier for this FREE event February 7-8, 2015.
Beat those cabin fever blues and have a blast with a weekend packed with events, activities, and of course, snow!
THE MAIN EVENT: SNOW SCULPTING COMPETITION
- Official Start of Snow Sculpting Competition
The artistry will wow you! Watch blocks of snow transform as the highly-detailed works of art are carved throughout the week by 14 international teams of professional sculptors, as well as 12 local teams of high school students.
- Sculpture Viewing
February 7-8 (11am-8pm)
Come face to face with the incredible ice sculptures, some as big as 10-feet-tall. Check them out during the day, or illuminated at night as part of an enchanting light display that begins at dusk.
- Public Voting & Awards Ceremony
February 7 (11am - 2pm)
Vote for your favorite sculpture, then head inside to the Family Pavilion for the Awards Ceremony at 6pm.
INDOOR/OUTDOOR FUN! WEEKEND ACTIVITIES
- Interactive Snowboarding Experience
February 7 (11am - 8pm) & February 8 (11am - 6pm)
A fan favorite returns! Kids can learn snowboarding basics from professionals as they navigate a fun snowboarding course throughout Gateway Park.
- Outdoor Snow Painting
February 7-8 (11am - 4pm)
Get hands-on and let your kid's inner artist shine through. Create masterpieces with colorful paints using the fresh, white snow as your canvas.
- Shedd Aquarium Polar Play Zone
February 7-8 (11am - 4pm)
If you need a little warm up during your visit to Snow Days, the entertainment continues indoors at the Family Pavilion stage. Shedd Aquarium will transform the space into an interactive Polar Play Zone complete with giveaways, a bean bag toss game, crafts and a chance to enter to win tickets to Shedd!
- Shedd Aquarium Penguins
February 7-8 (11am - 1pm)
Come face-to-beak to the beloved Magellanic Penguins from the Shedd Aquarium. These charismatic creatures will make a special appearance each day at the Family Pavilion with their trainers, who will answer questions about the animals, their habitats and more.
