2011 VISITOR DATA

Chicago welcomed 43.59 million total visitors in 2011 - an 11.1% increase from the 39.24 million visitors in 2010. The 42.39 million domestic business and leisure visitors in 2011 represented an 11.2% increase over 2010's numbers and marked the first positive year-over-year change in this visitor metric since 2007. Overall, Chicago's 2011 increase in visitor numbers surpassed the overall US average by 4.5%.

Other notable milestones include:

  • A record 23.07 million overnight business and leisure travelers - an increase of 11.3% over 2010.
  • Business travel to Chicago increased 5.1% to 10.58 million business travelers.
  • 31.8 million leisure travelers visited Chicago - a 13.5% increase over 2010.
  • Chicago hotels saw improvement with an overall occupancy of 72.1% - a 3.4% increase over 2010.
